Beginning Backpacking

Have you wanted to go on a backpacking trip but just did not know where to start? This is the trip for you.  Our trip will take us to the Tecumseh Trail where we will hike 8 miles round trip spending the night in the backcountry. You will need to provide your own food and personal clothing. This program is for adults and children over the age of 10 accompanied by an adult.

We will be hiking 4 miles into the backcountry, which means no access to services such as electricity and potable water. Our planned campsite does have a small open face shelter, picnic table and firepit. Note: there are not restroom facilities and thus we use Leave No Trace practices for waste removal which in summary involves digging cat-holes for a latrine.

Your registration covers facilitation (our staff leader will train and assist throughout) and transportation. Here is a helpful packing list.  If you don’t have all the gear, we can help! Look up our reasonably priced gear rental.

Physical fitness is an important pre-requisite for this activity. Your pack will likely weigh over 30 pounds and you will be carrying it up and down hills. This is cardiovascular exercise. Depending on recent rainfall, we may also cross small streams on our trek.

Saturday May 15 at 9AM: Meet at Camptown – (facilitated gear check)
Sunday May 16 at 1PM: Group returns to Camptown

Please double check your dates and make sure you going to attend.  Once you complete your registration and your payment is processed there are no refunds.  We will hold this trek rain or shine.

Covid 19 precautions:  Each participant and/or family unit can camp with plenty of room to be socially distant. You will have the option to prepare your meals in your own space as well. Masks will be required during transport.  Please do not attend if you or anyone in your household has had any of the following Covid-19 symptoms in the last 14 days.  Fever (>100.40), cough, shortness of breath, chills, muscle pain, new loss of taste or smell, vomiting or diarrhea, and/or sore throat. You will be asked to sign a screening statement upon arrival.

Cost: $99 per person
Recommended Ages:  10+
Min/Max: 5/15 people
