Camptown serves youth ages 8-18 in Central Indiana regardless of background or income. Annually, Camptown students come 69.5% from Marion County, 8.7% from Hamilton County, 5.1% from Boone County, 6.4% from Hendricks County, and 10.3% from other Indiana counties and over 76% of students are eligible for free and reduced school lunches.
Camptown partners with area churches; public, private, charter and alternative schools; home school groups, community and neighborhood centers; Boys and Girls Clubs; adjudicated youth transition programs; and other youth service organizations to provide custom programming designed to meet the specific learning needs of each group.
Unique Qualifications of Camptown
Camptown is truly unique. Although there are several great youth programs in the area, outdoor adventure programs are not in abundance in Central Indiana. Camptown provides its services to youth through collaborative partnerships with other youth serving organizations. Rather than competing with these organizations to serve their youth, Camptown staff members work with youth and adult leaders to design a program that will provide the maximum impact on the youth participants. Camptown even assists the partner organization with funding for the program. Financial assistance comes through grant consultation, grant proposal writing, corporate and individual contributions and sponsorships. On average greater than 90% of program participants receive financial assistance from Camptown for their program. Even organizations who traditionally provide outdoor experiences to their students like the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts have partnered with Camptown to provide outdoor experiences when their leadership does not have the expertise or resources to provide them. Camptown strives to reach a diverse population of youth, focusing on under privileged youth who would not otherwise have these opportunities or experiences.
