Camptown Compass Giving Circle

Joining the Camptown Compass Giving Circle is an impactful  way to help the next generation of leaders thrive in nature. Planned giving is an opportunity to leave a meaningful legacy, extending beyond end-of-life gifts, to invest in Camptown’s mission using your accumulated resources. While planned giving often involves financial or estate planning, it is accessible to everyone, not just the wealthy. These gifts can be made today or designated for the future.

The Compass Circle is our official way of honoring special supporters who have made provisions through their estate plans or contributed significantly to Camptown’s  Endowment Fund. For more information on planned giving options, please reach out to info@camptown.org. There are a variety of ways to join Camptown’s Compass Giving Circle through your will, living trust, retirement plan or other estate assets:

BEQUESTS

A bequest is one of the easiest ways to make a planned gift. It can be a direct monetary donation, a percentage of your estate, a portion of what remains after other bequests, or a specific asset like property. If you already have a valid, up to date will, your attorney can add Camptown as a beneficiary through a simple amendment called a codicil. To include Camptown in your will, specify: “Camptown, Inc., 7998 Georgetown Road, Suite 700, Indianapolis, IN 46268.” This flexible, non-binding gift can be adjusted as your needs change and does not affect your current finances.

REVOCABLE LIVING TRUSTS

Please note that including Camptown in a revocable living trust works in much the same manner as a bequest. Your attorney can assist you in tailoring the language to your needs and wishes.

LIFE INSURANCE

If your life insurance policy is no longer needed, consider donating it to Camptown. Consult your insurance agent to adjust policies for Camptown’s benefit. Both “whole” and “universal” policies can be gifted to support our mission.

REAL-ESTATE

In some cases, residential and commercial property. Donating property such as a vacation home or investment real estate may allow you to claim a charitable tax deduction and avoid capital gains taxes on any appreciation.

STOCKS AND BONDS

Simple, tax-effective appreciated securities. Donating appreciated stocks, bonds, or mutual funds that you’ve held for more than one year can provide special tax advantages and have an immediate impact at Camptown. Gifts of stock, bonds, or mutual funds can be made through our brokerage account with Fidelity Investments.  For more information please contact info@camptown.org or 317-471-8277.

DONOR ADVISED FUNDS

A tax-efficient way to be philanthropic, Donor Advised Funds are the fastest growing giving method. They allow the donor to make a contribution, receive an immediate tax benefit, and then disburse to charitable organizations over time. Open a DAF with a sponsoring organization, make a contribution to it, and receive an immediate income tax deduction. Many donors simply contribute cash, but sponsoring organizations are usually able to accept gifts of appreciated stock or other assets as well.

RETIREMENT ASSET

Retirement funds, such as IRAs, 401(k)s, and 403(b)s, are valuable assets that many people overlook as potential sources for charitable gifts. Donating from these funds can offer significant tax advantages. Normally, distributions from these accounts are taxable, but donations to charities are exempt from such taxes. This means that if you leave your retirement fund to heirs, it could be significantly reduced by income and estate taxes. However, by naming Camptown as a beneficiary of your remaining retirement assets, you can bypass these taxes and maximize the impact of your gift. To make this happen, you’ll need to complete a “Change of Beneficiary” form from your plan administrator. This allows you to designate Camptown as a beneficiary for part or all of your unused retirement assets. In doing so, you can provide for both your loved ones and the organizations you value, such as Camptown, while potentially reducing your tax burden. This strategic planning not only secures your financial needs but also supports causes close to your heart.

CASH

Simple, easy way to give. Gifts of cash (made by check, credit card, or ACH) are used to help fund daily operations at Camptown. You may also donate assets (jewelry, automobiles, paintings, and antiques) as immediate gifts.
